Erie Materials Earns Great Place to Work Designation

Feb. 20, 2020 --  Erie Materials Inc., a leading regional building materials distributor, announced that it has earned designation as a Great Place to Work-Certified™ company for 2020.

Established in 1973, Erie Materials distributes building materials, such as roofing, siding, windows, doors, decking, manufactured stone veneer and gutters, for residential and commercial exteriors. It serves professional contractors and architects through its locations in Albany, Auburn, Binghamton, Elmira, Syracuse, Utica and Watertown, NY as well as Scranton and Williamsport, PA.

This prestigious award is determined by validated employee feedback gathered with rigorous methodology. At a minimum, seven out of 10 employees must have a consistently positive experience to earn the certification. Far exceeding that threshold, 95% of Erie Materials employees who took the survey think it is a great place to work.

Some key findings from the surveys of Erie Materials employees were:

  • 97% agreed that “I believe management would lay people off only as a last resort.”
  • 97% said “Management is honest and ethical in its business practices.”
  • 97%  said “I’m proud to tell others I work here.”
  • 96% said “When I look at what we accomplish, I feel a sense of pride.”
  • 96% said “When you join the company, you are made to feel welcome.”

“The surveys show that when our employees think of our company, they think most often of the concepts of family, people, time and care,” said Erie Materials President Christopher Neumann. “Taking care of our people is at the center of our values and it is reassuring to confirm that we’re doing the things now that help our people feel valued and involved.  As my father and I have said over and over again, we owe everything to our employees, new and old, and we can't thank you enough.”

“We congratulate Erie Materials on their certification,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, Vice President of Best Workplace List Research at Great Place to Work. “Organizations that earn their employees’ trust create great workplace cultures that deliver outstanding business results.”
